Artist David Sopwith was awarded an Art Council of Wales Research and Development grant in November 2013. With a view that the body of work would help him progress to larger gallery and public commissions, his intention was to investigate the way humans interact with sculpture, as well as looking in detail at various casting techniques and creating an opportunity for critique and dialogue with his peers.
Now two months in he has begun working with a variety of materials, in particular looking at wood forming and bending, as well as experimenting with space, line and volume in his project space at Unit(e) as part of g39’s current programme.
This first open discussion in a series of three is a chance to hear about Sopwith’s work and observations to date. It is being held at g39 and facilitated by Elbow Room on Saturday 1st February, 3-4pm.
Questioning and critique are encouraged. Elbow Room will be attempting to transport us back to an art college environment – a rare group opportunity to sit around and think about, discuss and challenge an artists practice.
All welcome, no booking required
